It all starts with the lumber.

All Barronarts’ Stretchers & Strainers are constructed exclusively with 100% North-American Basswood. Basswood is the finest lumber available for artist’s structures and performs better than any other wood. It is clean, knot & sap free, extremely dimensionally stable & very importantly: grown right here in North America.

Barronarts will not use any rain forest or non-renewable lumbers of any kind in our products.

Standard profiles and custom designs

Barronarts has an impressive roster of standard Stretcher & Strainer profiles & styles, but it is our design & build capabilities that set us apart. We can build custom depths & designs to match the needs of our clients...while maintaining affordable pricing.

Our Mechanical PROBARS utilize fully expandable TITE-JOINT hardware for extremely accurate adjustments to your canvas or linen. They are also fully collapsible and can be disassembled & shipped worldwide. They are the only choice for discerning conservators.

Our Dovetail-Joint PROBAR Strainers are also fully collapsible for shipping & transport. And while not expandable, they are an affordable alternative to our Mechanical stretchers. At Barronarts, we know that one-size does not fit all...and our master craftspeople build to your requirements, aesthetic and budget.

Oversize & foldable stretchers

Barronarts can design & build over-sized frames using our customized FOLDING PROBAR system. We utilize custom milling & specially-designed aluminum connecting plates & installation hardware. This allows over-sized painting to be folded in half or thirds upon completion to facilitate transportation and installation.

Custom shapes and designs

We build custom Circles (Tondos) & Ovals, shapes of all kinds (Triangles, Quadrangles, Trapezoids, Altar-piece shapes or any other shape imagined) and we can fully stretch canvas or linen on virtually anything. Barronarts has become the Gold Standard for those artists whose imaginations take them far away from squares and rectangles.

stretching and priming

We stock and can stretch dozens of the finest cotton duck canvases available anywhere, as well as Belgian linens. Both raw & pre-primed materials can be expertly-stretched on our stretcher frames, strainers and panels. For many it is well worth the additional cost!
